Use of Google Knowledge Graph API in general and for images

Question

I am using the Google Knowledge Graph Search API in an application and I recently observed some changes. The results include no images anymore. And there is also a warning on the API documentation page not to use the API in production.

Is there any other, safe possibility to make use of the Google Knowledge Graph than the Search API? Is there still a way to get the images?
